You richly blest us on this day, and guided us in work and play. As shadows fall and light does fail and peace descends upon the dale, we turn to You with greatful heart, please do Your peace us us impart. As we lay down, from labours rest, please be to us our favoured Guest, prepare us for the coming day, that faith in You may never sway. For t is from You that blessings flow, and t is to You our life we owe. You gave Your life, so we might live, and all past sins You did forgive. Amen! Adrian Vermeulen-Miller 1 Again, as evenings shadow falls, We gather in these hallowed walls; And vesper hymn and vesper prayer Rise mingling on the holy air. May struggling hearts that seek release Here find the rest of Gods own peace; And, strengthened here by hymn and prayer, Lay down the burden and the care. O God, our light! to Thee we bow; Within all shadows standest Thou; Give deeper calm than night can bring; Give sweeter songs than lips can sing. Lifes tumult we must meet again, We cannot at the shrine remain; But in the spirits secret cell May hymn and prayer forever dwell. 2 Around the throne of God a band Of bright and glorious angels stand; Sweet harps within their hands they hold, And on their heads are crowns of gold. Some wait around Him ready still To sing His praise and do His will, And some, when He commands them, go To guard His servants here below. Lord, give Thine angels every day Command to guard us on our way, And bid them every evening keep Their watch around us while we sleep. So shall no wicked thing draw near To do us harm or cause us fear; And we shall dwell, when life is past, With angels round Thy throne at last. 3 I asked the Lord that I might grow In faith, and love, and every grace; Might more of His salvation know, And seek, more earnestly, His face. Twas He who taught me thus to pray, And He, I trust, has answered prayer! But it has been in such a way, As almost drove me to despair. I hoped that in some favored hour, At once Hed answer my request; And by His loves constraining powr, Subdue my sins, and give me rest. Instead of this, He made me feel The hidden evils of my heart; And let the angry powrs of hell Assault my soul in every part. Yea more, with His own hand He seemed Intent to aggravate my woe; Crossed all the fair designs I schemed, Blasted my gourds, and laid me low. Lord, why is this, I trembling cried, Wilt thou pursue thy worm to death? Tis in this way, the Lord replied, I answer prayer for grace and faith. These inward trials I employ, From self, and pride, to set thee free; And break thy schemes of earthly joy, That thou mayst find thy all in Me. 4 Mysterious Presence, Source of all The world without, the soul within, Fountain of life, O hear our call, And pour Thy living waters in! Thou breathest in the rushing wind; Thy Spirit stirs in leaf and flower; Nor wilt Thou from the willing mind Withhold Thy light and love and power. Thy hand unseen to accents clear Awoke the psalmists trembling lyre, And touched the lip of holy seer With flame from Thine own altar fire. That touch divine, still, Lord, impart; Still give the prophets burning word; And, vocal in each waiting heart, Let living psalms of praise be heard. 5 O Light of life, O Savior dear, Before we sleep, bow down Thine ear; Through dark and day, oer land and sea, We have no other hope but Thee. Oft from Thy royal road we part, Lost in the mazes of the heart; Our lamps put out, our course forgot, We seek for God, and find Him not. What sudden sunbeams cheer our sight! What dawning risen upon the night! Thou givst Thyself to us, and we Find Guide and Path and all in Thee. Through day and darkness, Savior dear, Abide with us, more nearly near; Till on Thy face we lift our eyes, The Sun of Gods own paradise. Praise God, our Maker and our Friend; Praise Him through time, till time shall end; Till psalm and song His Name adore Through heavens great day of evermore. $68yuoyouou$ "$68qqkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk !8Y| .SUy 0Wyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyysys'GIryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy1Y 0V:<_yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy_7^a B b yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 7 V x , .
